Progress Report on French-language Services

The province is continuing to develop and improve services offered in French for Nova Scotia's Acadian and francophone community.

The 2013 Progress Report on French-language Services offers a comprehensive look at services the province offered in French last year. Acadian Affairs' translation services set an annual record by translating 1.85 million words.

"The increase in the number of words translated and employees’ continued interest in taking French language training show how the province values the importance of offering more for francophone Nova Scotians in their first language," said Acadian Affairs Minister Michel Samson. "I encourage all of our partners in the Acadian and francophone community to continue working with Acadian Affairs to make their needs known so we can make French-language services even more accessible."

The report highlights new services established last year, including bilingual Nova Scotia birth registration kiosks and onsite services for researchers in French at the Nova Scotia Archives. The report also outlines the development of websites, social media, publications and advertising in French.

"The Fédération acadienne de la Nouvelle-Écosse applauds the provincial government's efforts to provide French-language services," said Justin Mury, président de la Fédération acadienne de la Nouvelle-Écosse. "We encourage members of the community to read the 2013 Progress Report and to learn about how government departments and employees contribute to the vitality of Nova Scotia's Acadie."
